Hosted by Deloitte on behalf of the Officers' Association, the Employers' Forum is the first in a series of events which aims to bring together organisations who are keen to create a new employer led narrative for the employment of ex-military personnel; shape the agenda of working with this group; and focus on practical employer led solutions.

This event will centre on making the business case for employing ex-military and is targeted at those who currently employ or are looking to employ Service leavers and want to:

  • Share best practice on how to optimise attraction – selection – transition – development of former military personnel within the civilian workplace.
  • Gain real time insight and practical tips on how to implement initiatives.
  • Understand how to develop and communicate the business case for employing Service leavers with a particular focus on identifying the benefits and value add they bring.
  • Shape the agenda of working with Service personnel and create practical employer led solutions.
  • Make connections with other employers

HR professionals, senior influencers, or those who direct military programmes within organisations are ideally placed to both contribute to the agenda and take advantage of the knowledge/experience of others who attend.

The outline programme for the day will be:

0930 to 1015: Registration and coffee.

1015: Introduction and overview of objectives for forum.

1030: Employer strategic perspective on why military is good for business.

1100: Case study - Making the business case for employing military personnel . This session will include some live insight capture from delegates to inform future research.

1145: Break out Session 1 - choose from 4 options.

1300: Lunch and networking.

1400: Break out Session 2 – choose from 4 options.

1515: Presentation of break out session insights and findings.

1630: Final Remarks.

1700: Networking and drinks.

Choose from the following options for the Break Out Sessions:

Attract – Raising awareness amongst the military community of opportunities and creating a sustainable talent pipeline.

Select – Optimising the selection process and supporting HR professionals and Line Managers to translate transferable military skills.

Transition – Supporting military personnel through transition and leveraging the benefits of networks to meet business objectives.

Development – Integrating military agenda with strategic agenda and business objectives.

Enjoy talks from:

  • Kevin Moylan – Head of Project, Programme & PMO Practices at Nationwide. Kevin will be discussing the development of a lateral recruitment process to meet their growing business need for project managers and how they have successfully integrated military personnel into this recruitment strategy.
  • Alison Stephens, Operations and Global Resource Manager, GE. Alison will be sharing insight on how GE, through their Global Military Network, has supported employees in transition as well as managed military talent once inside the business to reach their full potential.
  • Mark Arscott, Head of Military Engagement BT. Mark will be discussing the impact made on the business by individuals following a large scale military recruitment programme, and why BT sees military as a sustainable recruitment pipeline.
